Marty is CEO of ShadyLogic Studios, a cutting-edge creative and development studio specializing in 2D and 3D Virtual Worlds and games. We start with creativity and fun, then execute with a world-class team from Sony, Disney, EA, Lucas Arts and an array of startups to deliver worlds and games that bring brands to life.

Marty is also founder of SocialSage,  a Web Development and Marketing company specializing in community creation and management as well as social media and viral marketing. Social Sage brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from interactive media, entertainment and technology with an innovative team from Warner Bother’s, Citysearch and Disney.

Marty leverages years of innovation, management and engineering experience including architecting online social game platforms for market leaders such as Spin Master (as VP Operations and Technology), Disney Interactive (as Director of Online), Sony (as a member SCEA’s Online Platform Group) and as CTO of the MMOG World War II Online. Recent projects include Spin Master’s toy-inspired LivWorld and TechDeckLive as well as Disney’s DGamer social network for Kids.

In 1999 Marty was drawn in by games and community at the startup Playnet, eventually taking the role of Chief of Technology Development while creating Playnet’s shardless distributed virtual world technology for the virtual battlefield simulation/game World War II Online.

Background

An aspiring aerospace engineer, Marty started college at age 16 during the introduction of the IBM PC and BITNET. This resulted in an addiction to computer programming and late night forays into BITNET, online chat, MUD’s and creating his own game on the Vic 20.

After a tour in the Air Force, Marty focused on engineering robust fault tolerant systems in the roles of lead engineer, Director of R&D, consultant and eventually his own company. He developed lines of control systems including portable gas chromatograph and a joystick driving system for the disabled.

Professional Interests

Marty maintains interests in social networks, distributed trust/reputation networks, data/event driven architectures, AntiCheat/Security (published article in MMP Game Dev2) as well as agile development practices. He has also chaired, coordinated and participated in a number committees including the IGDA’s Artificial Intelligence Interface Standards Committee (ASIIC).
